New Movie: Chapter 27

by Arieanna on November 10th, 2005

Lindsay Lohan is to join Jared Leto in the cast of Chapter 27, a new movie about the assassination of John Lennon. Jared Leto will play Mark David Chapman, the killer, while Lindsay Lohan will play a Lennon fan who happens to meet him a week before the shooting.

So, Lohan has a theme here:

1 movie about Robert Kennedy’s assassination - Bobby
1 movie about Lennon’s assassination - Chapter 27

Interesting year for Lindsay.

I dont like the sound of this movie…..the beatles and John Lennon are too good to feature in a movie with lindsay lohan in it :( she is a dreadful role model for girls and not to mention…she is gonna totally ruin a movie about the great john lennon.
I dont like the whole concept of making a guy famous for killing one of the greatest men who ever lived. RIP JOHN AND GEORGE

I agree. I think that the idea of the movie sounds great. I love the fact that it’s shown from a different point of view, rather than John Lennon’s. Makes it alternative. But John Lennon is such a legend and was a GREAT musician that his memory should not live on through a Lindsay Lohan film. I do, however, think that Jared Leto is amazing, and he’ll make the movie worth watching.

no i dont really think this film is for me i mean i love all of lindsays films but this film just seems a little bit boring. alexis.13

I believe, for her age, Lindsey Lohan is a talented young woman. I applaud her for admitting to drug use and figuring out she had an eating disorder. I don’t disagree with the casting of Chapter 27- I disagree with the movie as a whole! We should not give Chapmin one second of a thought. How about they make a movie about the life and work of John Lennon, not his death. He was too much of a peace promotor to want to see a violent movie about a death marketed to young girls who follow Lohan’s every move.

Does the movies title, Chapter 27, refer to the Catcher in the Rye?

  • Wendyann
    Jan 6, 2006 at 3:52 pm

Yes, there are 26 chapters in that book. The title refers to Chapmin finishing what the book started, I guess.

Please, DO NOT MAKE THIS MOVIE!!!!!! Mark David Chapman killed John Lennon for publicity. Whoever is making this movie is going to give this sick murderer exactly what he wants. Really, please reconsider what kind of example you are setting for other future psychopaths. If you kill someone you then have a movie made about your life. That makes absolutely no sense!!!! John Lennon would not want this. The world does not want this!!!!!!

I completely agree with the last comment. I have always wanted to see a new movie about the beatles and john lennon. I never wanted to see a movie about john lennons killer he would not want this the kind of guy he is and I hope paul and ringo step in and it will be a john lennon movie not a mark chapman movie.

I think that this movie is not going to glorify John Lennons killer but explain what led up to John Lennons death. My father might be cast as John Lennon in this movie as he has been an actor/impersonator for over 15 years. He is very good at what he does and hopefully this will be his big break. Wish him good luck. Rest in peace John, A whole bunch of people respect you.

Now I like the Beatles and John Lennon, but CHILL OUT people! He wasn’t the greatest person ever to walk the earth. I’m sure you’ve all seen movies depicting real life murderers but, because you don’t feel those victims were gods on earth, it’s okay to watch those ones. Maybe some people want to know what happened. It’s a part of history and it’s interesting to people - even those who adore John Lennon. Music aside, what exactly do you guys respect so much about Johnny? The fact that he thought sitting naked, in bed with his wife would promote peace? He made some good tunes, but he was pretty weird. It’s like how everyone is saying that Jennifer Aniston is soooo great for overcoming her divorce with Brad. I’m sorry, how many people (including movie stars) get divorced and get over it? Lots. Now, I’m sure, everyone will get mad at me for even attempting to compare John to Jen, but I’m only trying to make a point. I, for one, am interested in seeing this flick - even though I think Lindsay is kind of a skank.

I think all you stupid haters need to shutup! There is obviously meaning behing the whole concept of this movie, and it’s definately not made to glorify John Lennon’s killer. At first I was iffy about Lindsay being casted in the film because I feel like it has potential into being something great, but i’ve recently seen pictur sof how its coming along, and I think we can expect a big change in Lindsay’s career. Maybe im just hoping for that but it would be good. She needs to shed off that ten queen image and start doing mature films, I think she has potential. So I guess we will see… she’s also in 2 other “indie” type films, so we’ll see if she can act before ‘Chapter 27′ is relesed. Anyone .. KINDA agree?

john lennon’s killer (real beatle fans shouldn’t ever say his name) wanted to be famous. if you go see this movie you are helping him achieve what he wanted to achieve by shooting john lennon in the back.

john lennon had been at his first interview in ages with yoko ono and was about to go out to dinner, but he missed his son so much that they decided to stop back at the dakota and say goodnight before they went out. on his way in, the killer asked lennon for his autograph on a copy of double fantasy. after lennon gave it, and started walking away, the killer shot him in the back and then in the head. after this, he sat on the curb and read “catcher in the rye.”

why would you want to let someone this cold blooded have a film making him famous or explaining his motives? i’m not a hater, i just love john lennon.

lindsay is picked for the movie because of all the young teeny hollywood actors she has the most versatile and impressive acting ability and she has a lot to offer…

i’ll wait for the movie before i comment on it…

im glad that lindsay is taking more mature roles…

it is lame to see only the shadow of a person.. all the good things are left unnoticed… it is sad that people only see the bad things… thats whats dreadful

I can’t believe they’re doing this. I really can’t. Although, before I knew about this, I almost wished someone would make a movie about John’s death.

I guess I’m just upset because it’s all about that horrid man. What he did was so inhuman. . . anyone killing anyone is inhuman.

But his reasons, God. . . he loved John! I’ve never believed in banning books, but if that’s what Catcher in the Rye does to the mind, I never want to read it, and when I have children. . . if they read it I don’t want to know.

He shot him in the back though! FIVE TIMES? What is the point? It wasn’t enough to shoot him once?

I can’t believe a bullet ever touched John. It’s not right, and it’s not possible. He worked so hard, using everything he knew how to use to achieve peace.

The least we can do is to try to love each other.

I wish I could love the man who killed him.

    Wow, that was a rant.

NO WAY linsey lohan , and that other jerk(actor)and all producers of this film. I believe in America and all of our rights . This is not Art. How Dare you bastards try and depict a event so henious to make money.I am so enraged over this stupid idea of a movie. The art of film making is denegrated to the same style as the media hypeing half truths and their political agenda.Every crack pot will know they will make movie about their terrible ideas ,thoughts and actions. Listen up America,Artists live to show us what what we LOVE. Dont subscribe to hate and death and evil ideas. John wanted all of us to love one another. Dont give energy to anything that goes against that.I only have one vote and no influence. So heres my hope. That you wont see any movie tryin to make a buck on the murder of one of our greatest positive influences .peace and love to you now.

Being a Beatles fan I guess I just have mixed emotions about this movie! Who really cares who plays who! But you know what even though half of you say you wont see the movie, at some point you will. You will all want to know the other side of the story! I dont think that they are trying to glorify the man who murdered John! I think that they are just trying to tell the story! The Beatles are hot right now and hell yeah they want to make their buck or two! The movie is already filming so its stupid to ask that they stop! And frankly its just so funny that some of you are freaking about even seeing it! You all know you will! John was all about peace and love, but he was not always the saint you seem to be making him out to be! I really do hope this turns out to be a great movie! Sad yes but true!

real beatles fans would not want to see this movie. i know, because i’m one of them… anyone who says they care about the killer’s “SIDE OF THE STORY” is not a true beatles fan… loving the beatles is about peace and music, not selfishness and killing, so i’m not interested in this killer’s story at all.

I am a huge Beatle fan-i’m 46-since i was a kid-and i’m also a huge Lindsay Lohan fan-a stunning actor. And Jared Leto’s acting is incredibly good-this movie is going to be a great one-i personally guarantee it. I love John Lennon and showing how evil and stupidity causes horrors in this world is a good thing. Cannot wait to see it-but will have to just the same.

I really don’t believe this movie should be made. John Lennon was and still is an inspiration to many people. I agree that it will give his killer what he wanted all along. I especially don’t like the idea of Lindsay Lohan playing the role of a fan of John. I believe if they do choose to make this movie, a true Lennon fan will play the role. Rest In Peace John and George

They are going on and on about the actors who play MDC and Lohan’s character, but no mention of who will be playing John? No mention of when it is going to be out? and the only picture I have found was tiny. I wonder how many people will go see it? I am doing a report of some sort in high school on John’s life and someone asked me who he was. Who is Lindsay Lohan playing? huh?
    Rest in Peace John…

its pretty rediculous to say that this movie is a bad idea because it is making chapmin famous. This is a part of history, and the film sounds awesome. At first i could never see lindsay lohan in a movie like this, but hey, im sure the director knows what hes doing.

This will be my last entry on this web site. After reading most of the other entries on this site, I have realized that most of the comments are coming from 14 and 15 year olds who know nothing about John Lennon or the man who violently took his life away from him. THIS IS NOT A JOKE!! A man pulled out a gun and shot another man in the back, not once but many times. This crime was filled with hate, anger, jealousy and nothing but evil intentions. So to the makers of this movie…after you make your millions off of this violent and senseless act, sit back and count your money, knowing that you produced nothing positive for the world around you. THIS IS NOT ART!!!! IT IS GREED AND STUPIDITY!!!!

Hi I am a Lennon fan and I am asking you NOT TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! The reason John was killed was because the killer wanted fame. I not going to even spread his name. Plus your giving him money by watching this movie and if he gets out of jail this October hes is going to be rich. THAT IS REWARDING HIM TO KILL ONE OF THE GREATIST MEN EVER ALIVE. I understand you love Linsay but this more inpotant. From a boy who loves John Lennon

  • Starlyn Joy Selmer
    Apr 3, 2006 at 11:27 pm

OK I cannot believe they are doing this has Hoolywood completley run out of ideas for movies that now they are makeing movies out of complete cowardly assholes who steal greats from teh world?! And why do they have Lindsay Lohan in them? She is makeing two movies expected to come out in the next two years called Bobby and Chapter 27. Bobby is about the assisnation of Robert Kennedy and Chapter 27 is about Mark David Chapman and the days before he shot John Lennon. So now there will be a bunch of 12 year olds running around talking about stuff they don’t know and going to see this movie about this sick and twisted individual who robbed a great man of his life and ripped that same man out of the arms of his family leaving a wife and a 5 year old and 16 year old son behind to pick up the pieces just becuse Lindsay Lohan is in it. This is WRONG!!! On so many levels. This movie should not be made in teh first place! Why give him more publicity than he has already recived over the past 25 years. I hope he stays in Jail! GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRR!

People need to understand teh real tradgedy here and not profit off it. I agree all this movie will do is give him Fame. I am not going to see it and I think anyone with a concious and who knows anything about what really happened would agree!

  • Emily
    Apr 5, 2006 at 12:08 pm

Who cares if they are makeing a movie out of a real life story how many times has that been done before. And nobody made a big deal about it.Even those movies had famous people in it.You guys are just making a big deal about it because Lindsay is in it
And to Starlyn there wont be a bunch of 12 year olds talking about something they know nothing about. I know CUZ I AM 12. You guys are Probley just jelose cuz you couldnt be in movie based on a story based on one of your Idols deaths. Mabey she wont be that bad. she is just trying to grow up and go into more mature movies.Don’t Judge things you havent even seen yet

Fuck you Emily and who ever else dares to put John Lennons name down. You all don’t know anything about what he tryed to do for everyone. Your all a bunch of pussy 12-15 year olds that don’t know there music, All they listen to is rap, and hillary duff and Linsday Lohan, Etc.
Lets give you a quick history lesson.
John Lennon was born October 9 ,1940. Now everyone knows all of Mr Lennons songs were advertising for peace on earth. Thats all he wanted was peace. And to this day if we got it do you think we would have a better world or the same boring peice of shit world with you fucked up kiddys that have garbage music. He was a legend. And to this day still is. I on the other hand have been granted a great life. I met Paul McCartney at Wembley stadium in the UK it was amazing his show. Also I have an ethentic John Lennon signature that this lady got when she lived in Liverpool as well as Pauls.
Anyways thats beside the point. If you havent listen to the Beatles Music then you should shut up turn off your nasty hilary duff music and put on the White album. Maybe then you will understand us caring so much about John Lennons story.

I heard Yoko was trying to stop this movie from being made. I agree. If you noticed my last name, me & John are distant cousins. If someone killed your relative, would you want them to make a movie about the maniac that killed them? I thought not. If you dont wanna see the movie, then dont. In the real story of how he was killed, there was no girl. Lindsay was thrown into the movie. She’s a made up character. They cant change what REALLY happened, which is: a freak killed a man that was minding his own business. If I killed Mark Chapman, would they make a movie about me? Probably not. I’m not against ANYONE on this website. I’m not going to tell anyone to “shut up.” I think that’s just rude. These are my thoughts. We all have our own point of view, & this is just mine, so please dont get mad at me.

Couple more things: I was reading some of these comments, & yes, Mark Chapman shot him 5 times in the back. Injuring him wasnt enough? No. He had to kill him.
My friends dont know this, but I’m a huge, huge, HUGE Beatles fan. They dont listen to my tpe of music. That’s why they dont understand me, or how I just wanna be a good person. I like peace, love, & happiness. I love how some people on here totally understand what I mean. Again, I’m not against anyone on here.

to shiloh lennon, you sound like a completely amazing person and i really respect you. everything you said i completely agree with, down to the last word. and for everyone else, the comments are a little nasty. everyone is entitled to their own opinion and can think whatever they like. if you don’t want to see the movie, don’t. no need to harass others. i’m obsessed, i mean extremely obsessed with the beatles, especially john lennon. they have taught me more than anyone else could ever teach me. so if someone would like to say that john lennon is not important then maybe they should realize that he had an enormous impact on many people’s lives. peace

Very sad but not a bad movie at all.

I Grew up with the Beatles, I loved their music, even when it went wierd, I still tried to understand it. I listen to music, the lyrics and all, not just to the tunes. Words are Important to me, especially in song, so I have given great thought to this matter, many days and months, about this movie, it is made, is being shown all over the USA now. But when it comes to a theatre near me, I will not be watching it. I remember the breakup of the Beatles band, and the reasons for it, John wanted to go in a direction musically that paul and george did not want to go, the contention got so sharp between them that the band disolved because of it. we all were devestated by it. Music, especially the Beatles Music, had become a sort of philosophy to us, the peace songs, and love songs, and songs about a better dream for our Earth, we thought nothing could stop us from making the world that way. We did not know about the power of the dark side, the power of greed, the power of love for authority, which many men mistake for true power; and cannot have same, because all real authority comes from and ultimately belongs to GOD Himself, and he only lets us have our positions of authority to see how we will do good with them. He gives, and takes away, for it is HIS to do so. those who worship their supposed power of authority, usurp if they could His right thereof. The power of lust for ownership of possessions, which takes money, lots of it, so we get caught up in greed, which has it’s own motivations, most of which have contrary intentions to love and peace. Intentions which have nothing to do with doing good deeds for our fellow man/woman. These things got in our way, and we did not succede in the dream that was in the song. So the best thoughts of a generation of children, fell shattered and forsaken on the concreate of our high towers, for the name of commerce, we abandoned our goals, and woke up and realized that only a handfull of us really believed the message, the others were too busy making money off of it. The Beatles got rich too, and left off the path they tried to set us on with their words. When you are that wealthy, you don’t have the worry of whether the world is truly suffering or not. It becomes a thing in the background, like news heard in a far-off country, not close and personal. Johns death was meaningless, just a murder on the street, by a deranged person that no one stopped in time; and his killer robbed civilization of a truly great if somewhat flawed dreamer, who wasn’t done dreaming the world a better place, inspite of the capitolism he got drawn into with his personal fortune. Lindsay I Love You, and I support You, but this movie, like ” Bobby ” ( which I have seen ) I will not buy or add to my collection. Make no mistake on this All MADISON AVE. ever wanted was to make money on the whole phenomena, they never believed in it for a moment, their GOD is money, and their Credo is Profit, period. They marketed to US a whole generation, something they themselves did not believe in, because they saw a potential for enormous profits, and when WE started to believe in it, they Madison Ave tried to make the whole thing a FAD, so it would go away, because it threatend their livlihood, if the general public started to actually do what the songs suggested and enjoined us to do. They Succeded in making it a FAD, and we had the plastic hippies as a result, and the whole thing collapsed, the whole movement was undercut, and the Beatles, were left disillusioned as a result, this led to the contention about the direction in which their music was going to go or continue to go. So now you have the story, from one who lived through that time and saw it happen, and understood all that was going on. Madison Ave. didn’t fool me, I just couldn’t stop them. For all my power, I couldn’t stop that. Greed and Profit, triumphed that year.
GOD Bless You Always, Lindsay D Lohan, I Love You Always, me, Larry T Robinson O.R. Tn.
