Michael Lohan not happy with Manson movie

by Arieanna Schweber on April 3rd, 2008

Michael Lohan is not happy that Lindsay has signed up to star in the Charles Manson movie, aptly titled Manson Girls.

"I don’t know who is making her decisions for her," Michael Lohan told us. "But I just wish she would go back to those family-style films - ‘The Parent Trap,’ ‘Freaky Friday,’ you know. This is a bad decision, and I don’t know who is telling her to do it."

I personally think it’s a step in the right direction for Lindsay. An adult role, a serious drama. As controversial as Charlize Theron in Monster. These are important movies.

Is the Manson Girls role good for Lindsay?

I think depending on how it turns out this could be “ok” professionally … but not necessarily “good”. I tend to agree somewhat with Michael, although I think that she SHOULD be moving into more adult roles — not *back* to juvenile roles …

Professionally, Lindsay is a jewel — she will be an asset to any film fortunate enough to sign her up, and she will handle it professionally — she always has. For her career, a lot will depend on how it turns out over-all, and on things beyond her control. And (as with all of us) those kinds of things can become real “if-fy” — if you know what I mean.

But you all know me — it’s her heart, her health, and her happiness (actually, Joy) that I’m concerned about. I can’t help thinking that — knowing how she puts herself totally into a role, she must also (unavoidably?) take on some part of that role — in this case, more Darkness. I am afraid for how this may draw Lindsay back to the darker side personally, or throw her into close association with those whose lives are filled with darkness (of course, that would be most of Hellywood anyway, wouldn’t it). That IS — unavoidably — a draining situation — one I would not wish to see her in.

Lindsay — I would rather see you move more towards The Light — you ARE S-O-O-O de-LIGHT-FULL !!!!! ;-)

OK boo’ful — stay strong — and stay close to Him Who Is All Strength — Who Loves you MORE than anyone ever can!!! Forever!!

Nothing succeeds like success, but then nothing fails like failure, either. Remember that “I Know Who Killed Me” was also a step toward more adult roles, and tanked like the Exxon Valdez. Same with “Georgia Rule” although Lindsay actually got to show some acting chops in that one while IKWKM seemed to be specifically written to give her little or no opportunity to demonstrate her abilities.

Personally, I’m not sure if there is that much interest in the Manson family anymore. What is the point of another movie about it. Sharon Tate is still dead. Get over it, already.

But then, I could be wrong and this movie could be as solid as a brick s***house made from solid gold bricks. But, I’ll take that bet. At best, this could be a watchable movie, and little else.

Who is picking these roles for Lindsay, anyway? Under normal circumstances, I would assume this kind of role would be a part of her “rehab penance” as she had to prove to Hollywood that she’s sticking with sobriety and can be relied upon to turn in professional work. But she was getting roles along these lines even before that all became a tempest in a tabloid teapot. How much say does she have in the roles she gets, man?

I’m reminded of a comparison someone once made between Michael Caine and Gene Hackman. Both are old school working actors who seem to always be taking roles. It’s their job, and they like eating, I guess. The difference is Hackman appears to have a better nose for scripts and therefore tends to appear in at least halfway decent movies while Caine has appeared in “The Swarm” “On Deadly Ground” “Jaws: the Revenge” “Beyond the Poseidon Adventure”

I just wish she’d learn to pick scripts a little better, or hire people who can pick them better, anyway. Somehow, I’m not sure if making a movie about the Manson Family so soon after a movie about Mark David Chapman is a great idea.

dang, michael, can’t you let your daughter live her life?!it’s her choices, support her,and be the loving father of a superstar, and i’m sure that Lindsay sees some merit in this character,or she wouldn’t have taken the role.i,for one, would love to see her in various genres, character types, good girls and bad girls, and proving that she is the finest talent since the great Meryl Streep.LLove you, miss Lohan.LLove always,a huge fan and friend.peace

I think now it’s not the time to turn down roles…She needs to get back on top and turning down roles it’s not a good idea…Now i’m not saying that Lindsay should take everything…But she’s the one who has to decide what’s good for her…Michel Lindsay is no loger a little girl…So let her decide…Love always unique Angel…peace
