Lindsay Lohan talks about her father

by Arieanna on July 3rd, 2006

Lindsay Lohan had an interview with the Mirror last week and in the interview she talked about her life - her family in particular - and how that has affected her. She also talks about her determination to carve out a successful career.

With Lindsay’s new film Just My Luck being released today, the star - who turns 20 on Sunday - admits her father’s behaviour has indelibly affected her.

"He has never done anything for my family or for my career," she says. "I don’t have any respect for someone who has treated my mother the way he has and by not being a responsible father. There were so many times in the past where he would just disappear for several days and we’d be all frantic with worry."

Lindsay refutes suggestions that she became involved in drugs, insisting that her first-hand experience of seeing how cocaine affected her father made her more determined than most teenagers not to succumb. While she has admitted to trying cannabis - and hating it - she says she has never taken harder drugs.

"I’ve never tried cocaine," Lindsay says. "I’ve seen my father. I’ve seen how it messes with families and f***s your life up. If I hadn’t witnessed that, I may have gone a different route. I don’t know. But I’ve seen how it tore my parents apart."…

When I turned 18 I really started to party, Lindsay agrees. If I had gone to university, that would have seemed so normal. I like to party as much as anyone my age, and when youre in this business there are obviously a lot of opportunities to go to events and parties.

"But it’s nothing too decadent and probably not half as wild as what goes on at university fraternity parties! I’ve worked very hard for a long time now and I’ve been very disciplined about my career. Going clubbing is my way of relaxing and releasing a lot of stress. I don’t feel that I should have to justify that part of my life."

Lindsay says she is now cutting back on her nights out so that it doesn’t distract her from her film career.

"I have to, because I want people to realise I’m serious about my career and my craft," she says. "I don’t want to be misunderstood. So I’m going to cut back on my nightlife - not because I feel I’ve done anything excessive, but because that stuff gets exaggerated, just like all those stories about me dancing on tables at bars where there aren’t any tables in the first place!"…

"I’m very lucky to be in the position I am," Lindsay admits. "I feel like I’m on the right track now to be able to show what I can do as an actress. Scarlett Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood are around my age and they’ve done incredibly good work in some very good films. That’s the direction I want to go in."…

"I feel I have a lot of talent, but I’m only now getting to do the kinds of projects where I can push myself and show what I can do," she says. "I’m pretty ambitious and I want to have a very interesting career."
