Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe
Lindsay Lohan posed for a very special edition of New York Magazine with photographer Bert Stern. Lindsay Lohan recreated the 1962 nude portraits of Marilyn Monroe by Bert Stern known as "The Last Sitting." Stern has, now 46 years later, revisited those shots with Lindsay.
Regarding the nudity, Lohan tells the magazine: "I was comfortable with it," though she confesses to having done "250 crunches" the night before the shoot. Lohan sees the Monroe photos (and by extension her own) as a way of regaining power: "Here is a woman who is giving herself to the public. She’s saying, ‘Look, you’ve taken a lot from me, so why don’t I give it to you myself.’ She’s taking control back."
The photoshoot is a beautiful tribute to Marilyn Monroe, and to the struggles both stars share. Lindsay Lohan exposes her body with grace and dignity.

See more from NY Magazine Here.
The Spring Fashion issue of New York Maggazine is on sale today. The photographs were shot at the Hotel Bel-Air on February 5. Everything from the original photoshoot was duplicated, from props to lighting.
Lindsay, as we know, has an ongoing obsession with Marilyn Monroe, and even has purchased the apartment where Monroe lived. This photoshoot was a no-brainer decision:
"I didn’t have to put much thought into it. I mean, Bert Stern? Doing a Marilyn shoot? When is that ever going to come up? It’s really an honor."
Lindsay notes the tragic deaths of Monroe and recently Heath Ledger as being "prime examples of what this industry can do to someone," but says "I sure as hell wouldn’t let it happen to me."

This was a really brave move! I think it gives a big insight into LL that she chose this shoot (Marilyns swansong) she must identify with Marilyn so much, I mean why did she choose this famously unhappy 1 of monroe rather than a more publicity oriented one? I think LL has more depth than she gets credit for!

wow,i am stunned…Lindsay really puts her all into everything she does, even an obsession with her long-deceased idol,Marilyn Monroe.how many women in hollywood, and all the women who ever idolized MM,can say they did a photoshoot, recreating the final photos of miss Monroe, with the very same photographer who did that last shoot?NONE,once again,Lindsay stands alone,a unique and beautiful personality and soul, not to mention, stunning on film and magazine page.btw, these photos were shot with film, not video or digital.i think Lindsay looks great in her homage to a fading 36 year old star of old hollywood, and portrays miss Monroe realistically,as she was having career troubles, and physical issues at that stage of her career.also, the side view of Lindsay and her breasts, shows the haters and trashloid mongrels that her breasts are real,a long-running rumor of the scumbag trashloid/smearNET haters, that we,the fans, always knew was a bunch of crap, but that, someday,Lindsay would have to squash, once and for all, well done, and tasteful, and in a tribute to her, perhaps, favorite movie star.love you,Lindsay.love always,a huge fan and friend.peace

hello,beautiful lady…
my previous comment seems to have been lost in the free-floating wireless electrons of the information superhighway.oh well,i just have to agree with everyone so far,Lindsay is absolutely dead-on in her portrayal of miss Monroe, and i really love the two photos of her, holding the pink and blue-green scarves in front of her,so sexy and alluring.a quality of the phenomenon that is Lindsay Lohan, that is often overlooked in the media madness that surrounds her,is her timeless appeal, that old-world presence and ability to effortlessly become any woman,a body ecletic,a chameleon of personality.if you have followed this hugely talented young woman, you know what i am talking about, that in countless magazines she has portrayed famous women, and always pays them a fine tribute in her likeness.go,Lindsay,go!!!

I Love You, I wish You would have agreed to be My Valentine, This Shoot was done before I sent You Roses, and that card, It does not change the way I feel about You, only Re-inforces my feelings. I am Right about them too, You Should be HERE with me, even for a little while, before the madness of Hollywouldn’t takes YOU over again. Think about it anyway, I can help You, and You could help me.

If you think it’s “such a great move”, why do you cover up her body witht hose hearts? I think what is Lindsay’s point, is that the world should get less perverse and not be ashamed of (seeing) it. It doesn’t matter cuz everyone has a body and I totally agree with her.

This woman presents as one of the more stunning visual images of our times, but I hope Ms. Lohan can keep her act together enough to keep making movies that I like watching. There will be more people that comment about semi-nude photos of “Lindsay as Marilyn”, including my 9 and 11 year-old daughters who are still disappointed in her for prior acts. But Lohan’s performance in “Bobby” made her a much bigger contributor to art, history and film than this photo-shoot.

Definitely not ashamed of showing Lindsay’s wonderful photoshoot, but our network has strict policies on showing nudity because we have so many very young readers.
That said, I did ask about this shoot because it really is art. I would have loved to show it as is. This is the best I could do - I at least tried to make the censoring subtle.

I am aware a lot of people consider “The Last Sitting” of Marilyn Monroe to be art. I’m a big fan of Marilyn - I even have a stand-up of her in my room here - but I am not at all a fan of “The Last Sitting.” I myself would call it, The Worst Sitting. The lighting is harsh, and so the shots are all washed out. I think it makes Marilyn look old & desperate, cheap & decadent, anti-glamorous & anti-glorious. Marilyn looks wasted out, which she was, from alcohol & drugs. She died just 6 weeks later.
I think Lindsay is the best model in the world. And she does a good job posing like Marilyn. I don’t blame her for taking the gig. It’s work. But I do not think this shoot does Lindsay any favors. I think it’s her worst.
I think it’s disgusting New York magazine & Bert Stern asked Lindsay, asked anyone to do this shoot. It creeps me out. Are they saying, Lindsay will likely be dead soon, so why not get a last photo shoot in? Hey, why not get 80-year-old Bert Stern out of moth balls & have him recreate Marilyn’s swan song?
Thankfully at least Lindsay does look a lot healthier than Marilyn did at that time. Hopefully Lindsay’s life is going in the opposite direction of Marilyn’s. Long Live Lindsay.

Karin Toobad…you have missed the entire point and purpose of miss Lohans photographic tribute to one of the most tragic, timeless, and enduring icons of our popular culture.let me fill you in-
1)Lindsay was asked to be in this photoshoot by the very same photog, bert stern, who shot the last photos of miss Monroe in 1962,46 years ago.do you realize the magnitude of this shoot?there are literally thousands of women who have imitated, copied, posed, and wanted to be Marilyn, but of those countless wannabes in the last 45 years,mr stern picked our girl, the hugely talented, preternaturally alive, photogenic and natural in front of the lens, and incomparable miss Lohan,to reprise the famous last photos of that conflicted and beautiful performer.go,Lindsay,go!
2)miss Monroe was at a particularly sad and lonely crossroads of her career at 36,haunted by her demons and bad decisions, fading in youth and beauty, and Lindsay has chosen this point of her idols career,to do a tribute, and is remarkable in her portrayal of this faltering icon, with flaws, wrinkles, age, and humanity.if you cannot see the pain, human frailty, vivid sex appeal, and Lindsays obvious love for this movie star, you are blind to the nuances of the human condition, and its relation to cinema, drama, and ages-old storytelling.bravo,Lindsay, bravo
3)Lindsay is not a poser:when she puts her mind, talent, and energy to a project, she goes all out.Marilyn was sex appeal personnified,a gale force of sexuality, and that overshadowed everything else about her, talent, personality, everything.if you looked up ‘bombshell’ in the dictionary, you saw a photo of miss Monroe, period.Lindsay could not have properly portrayed Marilyn without raw sensuality and tasteful nudity, and she did a great job.
4)there are many striking parallels between these two actresses and american beauties.you must look beyond the petty hatred, drivel, and jealousy of the trashloid media/smearNET,and see this photoshoot for what it truly is,a loving tribute by one performer, for her peer and favorite movie star of a bygone era.
love you,Lindsay.love always,a huge fan and friend.peace
Rest in Peace,Marilyn Monroe 1926-1962

Bravo to YOU Dave ! Good recap of the real story ! There are Millions of Women in the US alone, out of ALL of them, Bert Stern chose, BERT STERN chose….no one else chose for him ! HE Chose, none other than the ONLY one who could have done the photo shoot, who would have done it with the Grace and Charm so lacking in hollywouldn’t today, Our One and ONLY Lindsay D Lohan !! None Else need apply !! So there to all the detractors, remember the Original Photographer chose….And it was his good taste in choices that all the detractors are calling into question, by detracting the one whom he Chose !!!!! But the subtle point is, NO One ELSE BUT HIM c-o-u-l-d have done the choosing ! So he looked over all his previous work on the subject, and chose the ONE person, who could bring that to life again ! No one ELSE COULD have done it !! ONLY Lindsay ! AND the HATERS who have wanted Her destroyed all along, have gone Berserk with rage, that they have so utterly and miserably failed in their attempt to destroy Her. Bravo to Bert Stern ! Double Bravo to Lindsay !
What the rest of you all have failed to grasp….is that this ONE Photoshoot, above and beyond anything else that Lindsay has done up to this point, and I mean ANYTHING else She has done up to this point. Has done the ONE thing that Her detractors did not want done, Has in point of fact STOMPED ALL OVER THEM ! It has forever Imortalized Her !!!!!! YOU GO WOMAN ! take Your Place up there alongside the Other greats of our Entertainment World ! I have said ALL Along that the Old Timers keep placing HER with the Previous generation of STARS, because her current peer wanna-be’s can’t come up to HER level !! Face it Guy’s & Gal’s the powerful Moguls of Hollywood, have seen the same thing I saw long ago, SHE HAS “IT” and in bucket loads at that ! You Go Woman ! ( just Please, go a little more carefully HUH???!!! Please….please.)

Rachel Rule:dave must visit LG.com often
Feb 21, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Larry…great comment, agree with you 110%,and thank you for your kind words on my comment.
Elizabeth…crunches are a more difficult version of the classic sit-up,and really works the abs/tummy area.female models always do these the night before a shoot involving bikinis or nudity to give the illusion of tightness or a more muscular appearence to the tummy.crunches are done with your legs up on a chair or the bed,and you lift your upper body to meet your elevated knees,’crunching’ the tummy, very effective.i think Lindsay would’ve looked great with or without the crunches,as she was portraying a 36 year old Marilyn, who was slowly moving past her prime, and not as good in the body physical,as in her teens and twenties.Lindsay did a great job in her portayal of miss Monroe, and i am all the more impressed with the talent, depth, and ambition of this immensely talented, beautiful, humanly imperfect, yet perfectly fantastic triple threat performer, the one and only miss Lindsay Lohan.love you, young lady.love always,a HUGE fan and friend.peace
“stop shrinking me,mom!it’s not about dad,it’s about the audition.you’re ruining my life!!!”
Anna,Freaky Friday 2003(i have never seen a more dead-on portrayal of the classic american ‘drama queen’,then miss Lohans fabulous character,Anna Coleman.the only other drama queen role that compares is,you guessed it,once again, the sheer delight of watching Lindsay in action,as Lola in ‘confessions of a teenage drama queen’.go,Lindsay,go!!!i am waiting impatiently to see this incomparable actress on the silver screen, once again.)

I hate it, she has little respect for her career when people would die to be in her shoes. Hope she learned a lesson from Ledger. I think she is over rated, and although this is a good move for her, she is NO MM by far. MM should be insulted. It would have made more sense if LL was a little older (few years down the line) and then made a statement like this, but who knows if she is done playing drunken barbie doll yet. She barely got out of rehad. The freckles don’t look good and I’m not a fan of her body, there is no definition, just big boobs and freckles.
Larry R
Feb 21, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Sarah, You may not like this photo shoot, I thought She was going to do what She has always said, and not do nudity ever, but in Hollywouldn’t where the women are almost ALWAYS seen as the Initiators of the sexuality ( they just naturally do it better than men ), the PUSH is always there to get the Woman, to bare Her body, a thousand to one over the men, because the entire human race it seems is caught up in the desire to express the beauty of the female body, over the masculinity of the male body, like Rhodin’s ” The Thinker ” is actually the exception to the rule, so we magnify the Female form, much more than the male form. Thus when Lindsay became an official adult, turning 21 as it were, She could choose to do nudity, if She wanted to, I of course was hoping She wouldn’t, but She jumped at the chance to do Bert Sterns photo sitting, Now lets take a look at the AGE of the Photographer, as He, Bert Stern, was the Original photographer, 46 years ago, thats Fourty Six years ago, How old would He be, when Lindsay reached Her mid-30’s ? another 14 years from now ? Would he even be alive still to do the choosing of who He Wanted for the Model of the re-creation of the Marilyn Photo Shoot ? If not then the choice of who would do it, if it even ever got done at all, would not be by the O-R-I-G-I-N-A-L Photographer, thus carrying much less weight in terms of validating Lindsay’s choice to be Marilyn ? and of course then there would be simply cries of poser and wanna’be, and no credibility as to why She was chosen for same. So along comes Bert Stern, still alive, and able to re-create His fantastic PhotoShoot of Marilyn, and Lindsay is a legal adult, who can say Yes I’ll do it, thus validating by the Photographer Himself, her claim to being the best choice for this project, and voila !! Lindsay is Immortalized !! By this one Photo Shoot, she has put down every detractor ( which means even you by the way ) ( You might say she even { ahem…} ” Photo-Shot ” them down….. ) and Validated Her place along side the Greats of the Entertainment Industry. A N D as a bonus, has also garnered even MORE of the Moguls of Hollywoods attention, to the great dismay of her detractors and haters, thus the great cry and sound of r a g e, and frustration, coming up from the depths of those that hate her has become even more vituperant, more vitriolic than usual, because She has Beaten Them ALL ! AND they can’t stop it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sure Lindsay is not Marilyn cause there’ll never be another Marilyn, end point.
But Some of the pics are really striking , especially the outtakes’ ones. And this is a beautiful tribute to Marilyn from one of her biggest fans, Lindsay.
Now we give credits to Marilyn for what she really was, but she’s been taken for granted and many haters thought she was nothing but a stupid blond while she was alive. People should not be so judgmental and recognize a beautiful being when they see one.

There have been many MM imitators during Marilyn’s rein and after, including Madonna and even Christina Aguleira. But most of these imitators have always focused on the young Marilyn from the 1950s.
Kudos to Ms. Lohan and Bert Stern for their incredible tribut to circa 1962 MM, her last year on this planet. Lindsay has effortlessly captured the sexy, sad, and haunted Marilyn from the last sitting.
Not long after getting fired from her last, unfinished movie, “Something’s Got To Give”, Marilyn Monroe sent a telegram to Robert Kennedy. In it she declined an invitation to visit the Kennedy clan, making an odd, wistful joke by way of explanation. She was too busy “protesting the loss of minority rights belonging to the few remaining earthbound stars,” Monroe said. “All we demanded was our right to twinkle.” Lindsay, you have twinkled :)

ludy…your comment just popped up,nicely said,i like that you say,’…a beautiful tribute to Marilyn, from one of her biggest fans,Lindsay Lohan.’even the biggest stars have their idols, crushes, favorites, and miss Lohan is no exception.she has stated for years in her interviews, that she is a huge fan of that great american icon,Marilyn Monroe, and the photoshoot for new york magazine is fitting proof of her love and devotion for this humanly flawed and beautiful performer.can you imagine what was going through Lindsays head,as she posed for these photos?she is in the same set, same poses, same photographer as her life-long idol,it is history in the making.wow.Lindsay had to be thrilled to publicly show her affection for miss Monroe, and it shows in the photos, bravo, miss Lohan, bravo.also, for an actress,it must have been surreal to step into the body and soul of that amazing personality of old hollywood,to bring back some essence of that beautiful and tortured soul,to reveal it to some degree,to a new generation of movie fans who aren’t influenced by the negativity of the trashloid media and smearNET.i have noticed that the majority of fans on this fabuLLous fansite see what Lindsay is portraying in these photos, see her talent, emotion, and soul in these pictures, and that she is paying her tribute and respects to this enduring icon of a bygone era.i love you,Lindsay, and thanks for your recognition of the relevance of old hollywood, and their contributions to cinema live on in your persona and immense talents.love always,a huge fan and friend.peace

so i’m sitting in the dentist office today, and i pick up the latest ‘people’ trashmag to read while i wait.boy, did i get a suprise!there was a story on Lindsays MM tribute/photoshoot,and the trashmag was actually NICE to her,i couldn’t believe it.the title of the article was ‘the great pretender’,pretender in pink letters, and the byline was ‘when it comes to dressing like a hollywood icon, nobody does it better than Lindsay Lohan.’this from a trashmag that always rips on her.wierd.they showed Lindsay as Liz Taylor,Ann-Margret,and Liza Minelli, also showed a couple of the MM shots.the blurbs ranged from neutral to nice on her portrayals, and there was no dirt/rumors/trashtalk,and no bad pics of her,as trashmags always post the crap pics of her, like blinking or bad angle shots to make her seem off-kilter or drunk.most pap cameras run 20-60 frames per second,so most pics end up useless as a person will blink, change expression, facial movements and tics, framerate blurr, and of course, the odd angles.i just couldn’t believe that a trashmag would be nice to her,so i believe that miss Lohans fortunes have taken a turn for the better, and 2008 is only the beginning,a rebuilding year, get some film in the can, some new jobs, photoshoots, some new music, and heal.love you,Lindsay.love always,a huge fan and friend.peace
“hi,i’m the new office girl.”
