“I Know Who Killed Me” Reviews

by Arieanna on July 29th, 2007

"I Know who Killed Me" is getting slaughtered at the box office and in reviews.

Now, I do have to say the focus is on how bad the movie is, not on Lindsay Lohan. They actually say she made it possible to put the movie in theatres - with anyone else, it would have gone straight to DVD.

Lindsay Lohan is trying to break her mold of child actor movies, so took on this very gory almost B-rated horror movie to do so. Maybe it worked for that, but it was not a movie that showcased her talent. And, after Georgia Rule, Bobby and Chapter 27 - you’d think she could choose something better.

New York Daily News - half a star:

No review could really do justice to the monumental trashiness of this mess; it really has to be seen to be believed.

New York Post - 0 stars:

sleazy, inept and worthless piece of torture porn

New York Times:

Pretentious and inane, “I Know Who Killed Me” arouses unexpected sympathy for its embattled star.

Associated Press:

Ridiculous is the word that more often comes to mind… It makes you wonder what Lohan was thinking when she said yes to this project.

Hollywood Reporter:

There’s a fresh candidate in the running for worst movie of 2007 honors.

i have seen this movie twice and i like it for what it is-a low-budget homage to 80’s B-movies,with a variety of styles and color useage.it definitely has some unique moments and Lindsay is very erotic and sexy as the dancer, dakota.i see her in a very different light now and i am impressed by her willingness to take chances.i liked the story, even the ending, but wish that the director and editor had left a few more scenes in,instead of chopping it down to 1 hour,45 min?why is it that movie producers will make you sit for 3 hours(titannic) but will cut down other movies like this one?if this movie had retained a few more of the deleted scenes,i would have been much more enthusiastic, but i still liked this movie, especially the scenes with Lindsay, duh.anyway, the movie ‘critics’ suck studio butt, and sony pictures probably told all its paid hacks to bash the flick to get back at its troubled star.thats how hollywierd rolls, like a big high school ‘burn book’;rock the boat, you get blasted by the hater media ‘critics’.i plan to see this movie again just to spit in the eyes of the haters, and to show some more love for my favorite movie star, miss Lindsay Lohan.please get well and best of health and luck as you battle the demons.peace

i fail to understand how the talking-heads can say that this excellent horror/thriller B-movie bombed.according to fangoria, this flick was filmed, promoted, and marketed for less than 5 million, only shown on 1320 screens, and only projected to pull in 2-4 million on opening weekend due to its hard-R rating for torture, nudity, language, and violence, which is hardly the recipe for blockbuster status.i found Lindsays adult-role performance, quite engaging and erotic,as well as suprising in the emotional and painful horror scenes.THIS YOUNG WOMAN CAN ACT and it would be a shame if she can’t get control of her demons,as they overshadow anything she does onscreen.these ‘critic’ buffoons probably didn’t even observe her performance, they just wanted to bash the movie and anything Lohan.i love you, miss Lohan, whether you are Cady Heron or Dakota Moss,so please get well, and we’ll see you back on the silver screen.love always,a huge fan.peace

i always get distracted by thoughts of the incomparable miss Lindsay Lohan.i meant to say in the comment above that this movie finished in the top ten movies,no.9, with 3.4 million in estimated revenue, meaning all weekend reciepts were not in when this figure was announced sunday night, and that it did meet its expected opening number of 2-4 million, and on 1320 screens no less.(the simpsons were on 4,350 screens)the two times i saw this movie over the weekend, the theater was pretty full, and the crowd had a somewhat mixed reaction, after all, this movie is pretty gory, lots of f-bombs,sex,blood,violence,suspense,what more could you want in a horror/thriller?!!!!!!! i’d say the movie did pretty good for a limited release,low-budget B-movie,bravo!!peace p.s. haters-i’m going to see it again, you wankers.

At first i thought it would be gratifying to see lindsay get tortured, but i found myself feeling envious of her during those moments. until I saw this movie, i thought 28 days later was the worst movie i’d ever seen in a theater. roger corman has nothing on the writer and director of this movie because this was the worst I have ever seen.

alright,i have to say something in defense of miss Lohan and this movie,to clear out the negativity of that longisland hater fella.i have to give some major props to Lindsay,in her getting this movie made.in addition to shooting this movie on a tight schedule, low budget, stalkerazzi spies all over the set, intense media scrutiny,in rehab and battling her demons, family problems,Lindsay was suffering from an infected appendix wound, which was messy and aching, and continuing to shoot her scenes with this condition.this team-player work ethic was commented on positively by the director, chris silverston,in an interview on horror site,bloody-disgusting.com.i find it disgusting that the hater media NEVER has anything good to say about Lindsay, they just point out her bad decisions, flaws, and all that rumor crap.thats why all movie critics should walk the plank,f’n wankers.the entire media establishment should be sent over to iraq to clear ieds and minefields, since they serve no purpose other than senseless hate and drivel.get well, miss Lohan.love always,a huge fan.peace

i see a lot of people on various sites that claim to have seen this movie, bash on it,and leave ridiculous comments alluding to its awfulness, but never touching on her outstanding dual-role performance,or the many unintended parallels between Lindsay and both dakota and aubrey.i believe that a lot of people who claim to have seen this movie, are in fact, reading about it,and leaving nasty comments based on ‘movie critic’ reviews, and hating on her, since it is vogue to do so.if you have seen this movie, you would be pointing out some of the irony in dakotas character, and certain scenes that play out differently,in light of miss Lohans current mess.in comparing the two characters to Lindsays offscreen life, aubrey is the 2004 Lindsay, smart, creative, and focused, with no real distractions.aubrey disappears, and suddenly, there is this dakota character, that looks like aubrey, but, clearly, isn’t her.dakota is a damaged mess, wounded deeply and combative, sullen, not to mention, wild and out there. i don’t want to give away plot details for those of you who haven’t seen it,so i’ll say that you can watch this movie two ways.one,as a horror/thriller movie fan,and Lindsay gives a knockout performance, and you will cheer dakota when she takes on the bad guy!!! two,as a fan trying to figure out the current state of your favorite movie star,as there are ironic and disturbing parallels throughout the movie, not to mention that Lindsays acting is dead-on in the contraversial scenes and she is highly convincing as the stripper, dakota.there are times that this movie is definitely NC-17 in its sexuality,torture-gore,and language/situations.but,at the end of the day,i give it two big thumbs UP and recommend you see it.THIS GIRL CAN ACT and you won’t be dissapointed if you are a fan of her acting style, facial expressions, sexy voice, charisma, screen presence, and those huge, expressive eyes.i give this young woman one more thing, she definitely gives it her all.when she does something, she goes all out.you’ll see what i mean when you watch this movie.that bodes well for her continued movie roles in that producers know they will get their moneys worth, once she gets her demons in check.why do you think that there are still people willing to take a chance on her,in this mess she is in?because they see that potential, that rare spark of something old hollywood, that presence that pulls you in.i wish her the best of luck with her demons and legal issues and hope to see her again,on the silver screen, and soon.peace

    Rachel Rule:dave

THANK you for that encouraging description — such a good reminder that Lindsay managed to give us her typical 1000% at a time when she was being personally devastated. And playing a role that could only have added to her darkness. I truly hope this period marks the lowest “low” she will ever have to deal with, and that the road ahead brings peace, health, strength and true personal happiness to perform in challenging roles such as these WITHOUT having to live it out in her personal life at the same time!

Thanks again R-R dave — the “karma” cannon has been loaded up for yet another round at the hapless hopeless haters!

btw — unlike the weatherman (who is only paid to talk - not to be right) — I have yet to figure out who the critics are talking to? In any case, I have found that critics are a lot more predictable than the weatherman — the critics are ALWAYS wrong!

Hello All, and To You too Lindsay if you ever come and read any of these to get a lift on people who support you, even if we don’t always have all the facts, which of course we never can, but would like to. I have had to wait till today 7-31-2,007 to see the movie, the weekend it opened, thursday, a tree limb crashed down onto my beloved car, smashing the windshield, and I had to wait till today, for the replacement, so was unable to drive to Knoxville where the movie was showing, local theatre here in OR opted out of the showing, I have to say Lindsay’s portrayal of Dakota Moss, and Aubrey Flemming, was absolutely Brilliant, But I have had enough of Death and Gore in this world, and this just isn’t my kind of film, so I will not be buying a copy of it when it comes out on DVD, and I won’t be seeing it again, very difficult to sit through. But pointed up two things to me. 1 If she w-a-s a multiple amputee, I would marry her anyway, as I have already fallen in love with her. 2 I have never and probably will never feel that way about anyone else anywhere in the world, because there is no one I love as much as her. Not that I ever want that to happen to her, nothing could be further from the truth. I had a few problems with the plot of the movie, lacking in certain forensics. For instance the Finger Prints of Identical twins, are NEVER Identical, and no mention of that was made in the movie, made it a little less believeable for me, that the FBI would over look that and other KEY forensics clues. Poor Police work, they would have been MUCH more thorough than they were portrayed, especially if it was a VERY high profile case, which it was made out to be. (b) the Recouperation time to prosthetics, is MONTHS, not days. BAD SCIENCE !! Impecable Acting, but VERY POOR SCIENCE. ( I am a science geek so I look for this sort of thing.) (c) the Tie-in to Stigmata–seemed to me to be reaching, and the ENTIRE films outcome hinged on Dakota figuring that out?? Even with telephathy that would take a greater understanding than a non-schooled tyro in the field of science and religion could grasp from a standing start in 4 days. Sorry but this movie lacks in certain very essential “Believability” catagories for me. AT least she didn’t Show any real nudity during this film. So is not yet typecast into this sort of role, good choice there Lindsay. And Yes You and I do have a ” Psyhic ” connection, but I wouldn’t go straight to ” Stigmata” just because I broke my ankle, then a year later you broke Your ankle in the same spot. AND Lastly BOY DID I GOOF sending you that last dozen Red Roses, you must have thought HUH Whats up with this ?? But at least they were RED ( for Love by the by ) not BLUE !!! The Movie had not come out yet, or I might have sent Carnations or something. Love You Always Lindsay Lohan, God Bless You Always, from ME Larry T Robinson OR Tn.

to all lohan haters, this comment is for you….i have seen this movie twice with friends and all of us have have liked it for various reasons.i finally convinced my girlfriend to see it with me,as she is not a horror fan,but i changed her mind when i said nearly every critic bashed it,and she does hate critics, maybe more than i do.plus, she seemed more inclined to go when i told her i had seen it twice already.one other thing for the haters-there were a lot of blurbs saying that people were laughing a lot in the movie.that’s a crock.both times i saw it,the theater was half to three quarters full, and the only big laugh was the prosthetic leg beeping.( i didn’t lol,but the irony did cause me to choke on my ginger-ale) in case you haven’t seen it,Lindsays character, dakota, has a prosthetic leg that is battery-powered for nerve impulses.she charges it at night and it is good all day.anyway, she is at the killers house and it starts beeping, low battery alarm.she pulls up her pant leg,and the low battery led readout is ON HER ANKLE.how wierd is that, you know, the alcohol monitoring bracelet.it does get a big laugh, unfortunately.the producers never saw that coming.it is a good suspense movie with a twisty plot and ending, just remember that 99% of horror movies don’t have fairy-tale endings, but i did understand the plot and ending,SO SCREW THE HATERS AND CRITICS.we are going to see it tonight, myself for the third time.please get well,Lindsay.love always,a huge fan.peace

People that don’t understand the movie “I know who killed me” here *spoliers* I’ll explain it to you.

CobaltDuck explains - The Movie is not about a Twin finding her sister like some psychological mystery crime drama. ITs not really torture porn. Its a Psychological thriller. The movie a about Aubrey using her imagination to try to solve the mystery of who is killing her. Aubrey doesn’t make it. Aubrey is killed. Aubrey is captured, tortured, buried alive, and the mysterious killer gets away with it. Aubrey doesn’t know who is killing her, so she retreats to her mind and to avoid the pain and try to make sense out of why this is happening to her. That part where Dakota lays down next to Aubrey isn’t a tired Dakota taking a quick nap its Aubrey finally dieing.

The MOvie on the very first viewing is suppose to confuse you…it leads you in many directions and possibilities.. Does Aubrey has multiple personality disorder, or maybe she is an engineered twin for an experiment (take note of the similar faces of the 2 previous girls maybe they were both engineered twins and killed as well), or Dakota really is a twin… These are just decoy plots. Every time Dakota feels pain..thats not Dakota thats Aubrey feeling it. Every vision Dakota has is not a vision .thats Aubrey seeing the situation. The movie’s first viewings purpose is to make you think the story is going in a different direction. Only at the very end does it become clear and the movie comes into focus. It should hit you in the gut that Aubrey didn’t make it. Its sad. It should make you angry because Aubrey is strong and not weak but she never had a chance to fight back.

The 2nd viewing you have the time to look at all the clues, because maybe the Piano teacher wasn’t the one that killed her maybe thats just Aubrey’s best guess before she died, its probabley the gardener. Maybe it was the strange man on the bus. Maybe its the psychiatrist. Maybe the killer is hidden in her mind. Maybe no clue in her mind will help her solve the mystery. Even Aubrey herself doesn’t understand why she is doing this. I like to think Aubrey got it right and figured it out and gave her self some comfort for solving the mystery.

People that criticise the movie, including newspaper critics, just don’t get the point of the movie. It goes right over their head. They can’t see it even though its right in front of their eyes. One could start to suspect where the movie was heading when the “strange” explanation for Dakota losing body parts was explained by “Twin stigmata”. This is a fantasy, they could of equally used Voodoo or witchcraft or alien invaders as fantasy substitutes. Then when Dakota decided to drive with her father to the piano teachers house (with out back up or calling the police i might add) the direction of the story should of become suspect. When Dakota said “I think i know who killed me” the audience should of started figured it out, because why would Dakota say “I think i Know who killed me” it doesn’t make sense, Dakota was never touched by the Piano teacher, nor was she being killed, she said it because she was Aubrey and Aubrey was close to death and wanted to figure it out. Then Dakota finds Aubrey… it should become obvious that all of this is in Aubreys head. Dakota joins Aubrey because Aubrey is in her last breath. The movie ends and goes no further because Aubrey is dead. If it wasn’t in Aubreys head then the next scene would show the next day at her dads funeral with both sisters on crutches. But, Aubrey is dead.

The movie isn’t suppose to make you feel good. It should make you feel sad/angry/depressed/uncomfortable. It is not a normal happy Holloywood movie. But its tragedy will keep you thinking about it for a long time. the stripper scenes make you feel like the movie you see is real. If the ending was a happy ending the effect would not be the same. Aubrey dies… and its really sad and such a waste.

I know who killed me is a good movie.

dan combs aka cobaltduck…i agree with most of your synopsis.i have a question.the old pickup truck, belonging to the gardener,is shown fully restored and gleaming in the driveway at the beginning.later, after aubrey flips off the gardener, the truck is shown beat up,dirty,a headlight hanging down, also like that, after the game, the night aubrey is kidnapped.what gives?peace

    Aug 2, 2007 at 11:34 pm

    cobaltduck,
an observation on my part;when dakota sleeps with aubreys boyfriend, jerrod,it is really aubrey wanting to have sex,or lose her virginity, before she passes on.aubrey and jerrod were not having sex in their relationship,as she was either a virgin,or not ready for sex in their dating.although aubrey is subtle in her flirting and sexiness, the film does not give any hint if she is a virgin or just cautious about sex.i believe that since aubrey is rather low-key and prim with regards to sex, dakota is a her wild side-an overtly sexual and dominant personality.this movie is full of pyschological details and hidden meanings and really makes you think.you have to see it more than once.i have seen it three times now,and i can say it was money well spent.also,i have to say that Lindsay did a remarkable job in establishing the two characters as entirely seperate personalities, from the physical to the behavioral.she truly is a great actress and compelling onscreen.there is a scene towards the end that gives me goosebumps everytime.dakota is sitting in the front seat with the father at the killers house before the dad goes in.dakota is sitting in shadow, conversing with the dad.her face is mostly in shadow, with one large, luminous eye visible, which catches the moonlight vividly.this scene is eerily similar to scene in ‘roman holiday’ where cary grant and audrey hepburn are sitting in the horse-drawn taxi, just before she goes back to her princess life.its the SAME scene, face heavily in shadow, one large eye, conveying emotion and turmoil.in dakotas case, she is near death,as she has trouble breathing, needs to find the killer, closure with her other half.it is even stated in the movie dialogue that she only feels like ‘half a person’.this truly is a great movie,THE CRITICS AND HATERS BE DAMNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! peace
    everybody,please go see it.

Dan IF your synopsis is correct, then I Know Who Killed Me is a TERRIBLE film, because it is an anti-hero killer gets away with it hollywood propaganda the good guy doesn’t always win movie, and those in my opinion ARE NEVER good entertainment !! I HATE movies where the serial killer gets away with it. Disgusting!! Why do you think we have so many Serial Killers out there now, because Society is so aloof from itself, that they can prey on the unsuspecting and hapless. I HAAAAATE that. That is why so many serial killers are caught only after their Nth. victim, because the trail of clues finally catches up with them. So if your theory is correct, then I HATE this movie not just don’t like it, hopefully you are wrong, the Piano teacher was just nuts, and the movie ends with so many loose ends for room like a sequal, maybe. If Aubrey actually dies at the end, why not just say so, why have them both together laying on the ground, breathing, wouldn’t the movie fade out to black as they took their last breath ?? Your logic seems to be lacking, or else the director could not create a closed end movie. which would be bad directing on his part. I am sticking with my theory of BAD SCIENCE, they needed a better Science Consultant on this one. would have re-aranged the plot a little, made it more believable. Still too hard to watch her get hurt in ANY way, even make believe. I Love Her too much for that. “I” Love You Always Lindsay Lohan, God Bless You Always, from ME Larry T Robinson. Oh yes and another thing, I haven’t seen her fellow Actors promoting the movie in Her Absence, WHY NOT!! She did not make that movie all by Her SELF !! Why are THEY not stepping UP and helping to Promote the MOVIE !!!!

i wish i could tell Lindsay, personally, that i am greatly impressed by her acting range, and that i really loved this movie, not just for its cerebral plot, but that her outstanding performance really got to me,both entertaining and emotionally.i really cared about this character and her conflicted soul, particularly in this harrowing ordeal.i accepted the ending as it is a film of the horror/suspense genre,a type of cinema not known for happy endings, but i am content as the personalities did have closure,a reunion of sorts.i will definitely see this movie a fourth time, and will get it on dvd, hopefully a directors cut with the deleted scenes.bravo, miss Lohan, bravo, for an intense performance and a film that i think about, long after i leave the theater.if you people have not seen this movie, please go see it-do not let the haters and agenda-based ‘critics’ deprive you of a great theater experience.please get well,Lindsay, and we will see you on the other side, hopefully larger-than-life on the silver screen,up where you belong.love always,a huge fan and friend.peace

larry…i saw your comment earlier about the cops taking her fingerprints to establish either the same person or twins.you only get fingerprinted when you join the service, get a gov’t job requiring a security clearance,or get arrested.aubrey would not have had fingerprints on file,as she didn’t meet the above criteria;nice try, though.also, the cops had a perfect dna match.twins have 70-90% matching dna,but still have striking differences,so aubrey was one character all along, but with seperate personalities brought on by trauma and her writers active imagination.this movie hinted at all sorts of possibilties, but,in the end, considering this genre, this one is the only one that makes sense.now, before you get all bent out of shape on me,i have to say that i really wanted to see twin sisters(even as an adult,i still love the Parent Trap)but with that said, the sisters would have had to show up the next day,a reunion with their mom,a funeral, etc, and that would have been a problem for this type of film.name me one horror movie that had a happy ending?!they don’t,so i went into this with that expectation, but it turned out great in that the piano teacher didn’t win over aubreys mind and soul.in her mind, aubrey had wasted the serial killer, and found her other half,so to speak.she had won in that he didn’t get to punish her(the cops and profiler had conjectured that the killer wanted to punish the victims)and couldn’t get to her mentally, since aubrey had retreated inside herself, sending out her alter-ego,dakota,to find out the killers identity.if you paid attention to the coroner report early on,it said the killers m.o. was to give the victim,’a near-lethal amphetamene dose to keep her aware…’,that telling me the victims died.aubrey wasn’t dying just from her missing limbs, she was slipping away from too many pills forced on her by the killer. while i would loved to have seen this killer wasted or brought to justice, that is not how this genre works, and the killer stays around for round two, duh. i will agree that it is hard to watch Lindsay in pain, but she IS an actress,an outstanding actress, and should not be limited in her genres and roles, because we have some chauvinistic instinct to see her in a good light.i would love to see her in some risky roles, bad girl roles, characters where we see multiple sides, where you are not too sure who she is.THIS YOUNG WOMAN CAN ACT and i say give her the chance, after all,the iconic actresses of old hollywood were highly versatile and portrayed many types of characters, good, bad, and that gray area of humanity.Lindsay is a fantastic actress, and i hope she takes on more roles like this.one more thing,Lindsay acts with her eyes,in addition to all her other mannerisms, and that is clearly evident in this film.it’s why she appears so alive on camera.there are very few actors today that convey emotion so tellingly with their eyes, and miss Lohan is tops in my book.that is all.peace

I will add another comment here, In a REALLY HIGH PROFILE disapearence, like a kidnapping, or abduction for serial killer reasons, the FBI, when THEY get involved, go through the victims personal area, looking for ANY clues, and take Finger Prints, off any thing they can!! in case they can use them to Identify someone, or the missing if found, alive or not. It is a matter of Forensic Policy, and was over looked on this movie. Now if this is all playing out in Aubrey’s mind, not in real life, then why have the FBI at all ?? in the case of seriously drugged up people you can’t even get lucid real coherant thoughts and sentances out of them, so neither would you from Aubrey. so another point of not making sense, murky directing. murky plot. too too many elements missing, reminds me of a chaotic ” Clockwork Orange” with a very bad twist. AND as to Stigmata, that is the subject of MUCH religous debate in the Catholic Church, as it seems to stem from supernatural forces, and seems to have some real bearing on today’s world, a sort of ‘ Yes we’re still here ‘ from the forces of the other world, leaking over into our world. But not something that ‘Dakota’ Un trained could figure out in the 4 days or so she had to get it. Takes years of study to understand the real ramifactions of the subject, or at least months, and certainly not days, so if that was just ” Fantasy ” in Aubrey’s mind, then the plot of the movie is even murkier, So if he the director IS going for murkey, he succeded. Which in my opinion makes it completely unclear what his motivation was in the shoot, not brillian, but just chaotic, like a child playing with VERY expensive molecule bloocks, to see what the outcome could be. NOT good entertainment. But then again, I don’t go to see any of the Freddy movies, or Jason Movies, don’t really care for the Predator movies either, no Jason Does Freddy here in this hosehold, or ” The Serial Killer that Ate Sheboigan ” , not interested in those movies, not in my opinion good entertainment. But You go watch it if you like that sort of thing. I merely post that I don’t like the unresolved murky motives of the film director, or what he was really trying to portray, or why when it looked like it was going to be this kind of film, that the Studio Execs didn’t rein him in a little….Love You Always Lindsay Lohan, God Bless You Always, from ME Larry T Robinson OR Tn
